The Social Security system exists to help hard workers pay bills and support their families when faced with a disability. You’ve spent years paying into the system – now it is time to make it work for you.
At the Middlesex County Law Offices of Jeffrey W. Goldblatt, Esq., attorney Goldblatt has spent 30 years helping people throughout New Jersey get the Social Security benefits they deserve.
Which Benefits Are Right For You?
The Social Security Administration (SSA) offers two types of benefits to the disabled: Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
While receiving SSDI or SSI benefits, you may work; however, there is a cap on how much income you earn per month. If you earn income above that threshold, you will no longer qualify for Social Security benefits.
SSDI is available for people who have spent their lives working and paying into the Social Security system and now need help due to a disability. The amount of SSDI you are entitled to per month is based on your Social Security earnings record.
SSI benefits are available to low-income people who have not earned enough income to qualify for SSDI and to children. Because benefits are not based on prior work history, those seeking SSI must show they fall below the income threshold set by the SSA. Monthly payments are based on monthly income and resources and are capped at an amount set by the SSA.
